In Memory of Ruby Ashby
by Lynda Gotts
25th November, 1922,
was the first day in the life of our mum
The smile on her face was second to none
The sparkle in her eyes as bright as the sun
A precious gift--that's a Ruby that one
And that precious Ruby was our mum.
She lived in the country where she had so much fun
From early in the morning till the setting of the sun
School days were long, but she had to go
Regardless of it raining, sun, sleet, or snow.
When school days were over she was very young
She went into Service as others had done
But when Mr. Hitler came along
She
went and signed on.
Many years later after battles galore
1945 brought the end to that war
Whilst warlong hard through troubles and strife
She met our dad Ronald, who made her his wife.
Together as one they worked hard to survive
Then in 1949, yes, I arrived
Then
four years later things were much better
Along
came the stark and delivered my sister.
Years followed on and we grew and prospered
The home nest was flown as we went on our way
Today we are sad, tears falling like rain
Because the 25th of July, our mum was relieved of her pain.
She is troubled no more with the stress and the strain
But we know in our hearts her sun will shine again.
The love we hold dear will always remain
Our mum's eyes will sparkle
And
she will smile once again
When she joins
hands with dad
Evermore to remain.
The family will unite in sorrow and pain
And the love for these two people will always remain.
As for myself, I just have to say
I'm
worn out and tired, but Oh, what a day!
She
cared for us all in her own little way.
So
remember her now, as we leave here today
A
love is to cherish and share everyday
